A haven of peace and tranquillity just twenty miles north of York, walkers and cyclists will enjoy exploring the 554 square miles of magical moorland, ancient woodland, secluded dales, historic sites and a stunning Jurassic Age coastline with fine sandy beaches. The night skies above are recognised as one of the best areas in the country for stargazers and a wealth of wildlife call the surrounding countryside their home including deer, barn owls, kestrels, woodpeckers, nuthatches and many more. The North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway can be alighted in Pickering and offers a unique way of exploring the National Park.
