Peacefully situated just six miles from the ancient market town of Pickering, Rains Farm offers an award winning range of newly refurbished cottages in a tranquil, rural setting. Ideal for exploring the North York Moors and coast, our beautiful farm is a haven for wildlife and many fantastic activities can be enjoyed in the surrounding countryside such as mountain biking in Dalby Forest, walking through the Moors, fishing, golf and horse riding. Alternatively take a day trip to famous coastal towns such as Staithes, Scarborough or Whitby with its famous Abbey and 199 steps. The historic City of York can also be found just a thirty minute drive away.
To prepare for 2019, we have recently completed a major refurbishment of our holiday cottages and all of our properties are individually furnished, decorated and maintained to the highest standards. Couples, outdoor activity groups and families with older children are welcome but please note that we do not accept pets.
Dating from the 17th century, Dove Cottage is perfect for couples with one double bedroom with king-size bed and ensuite with walk in shower. There is also a large open plan living area/ kitchen full of interesting features such as the original fire range, side oven and old brick nesting boxes high up on the walls. The large window in the lounge allows guests to enjoy beautiful views over the Vale of Pickering and National Park. Sleeps 2.
For slightly larger groups, Orchard Cottage was formally the farm's milking parlour and boasts exceptionally spacious rooms. The bedrooms at this single storey property are presented as one double and one twin which share use of a newly fitted bathroom with walk in shower (approx 4 inch step) and a comfortable height toilet. The charming living accommodation includes the original bread ovens from the farmhouse, exposed stone walls and huge arched window overlooking the Wolds. Sleeps 2-5.
Perfect for up to five people, Primrose Cottage was converted from an old stone barn which was later used as the grain store. The huge picture window in the lounge overlooks the Vale of Pickering and North Yorkshire Moors National Park. The bedrooms are presented as a double, twin and single which share use of a family bathroom with overhead electric shower. There is also a ground floor cloakroom plus vanity units in the double and twin bedrooms. Sleeps 2-5.
Wren Cottage is ideal for up to four people and this former stone stable retains many original features including exposed stone walls and old beams. The two bedrooms, one double and one twin, share use of a modern bathroom with overhead electric shower, WC and hand basin. The floor to ceiling windows in the living area boast magnificent views over the Vale of Pickering and the hills of the National Park. Sleeps 2-4.
Granary Holiday Cottage is full of old world charm with many large old beams and two huge picture windows overlooks the Vale of Pickering and National Park. There is one double bedroom with a king-size bed plus a further twin room and a family bathroom with overhead electric shower, WC and hand basin. Sleeps 2-4.
Entertainment facilities in our cottages include a wide screen HD digital Freeview TV, a DVD player, iPod docking station and CD player. TVs can also be found in all bedrooms. Relax in your cottage's comfortable lounge with beautiful, floor to ceiling windows and a quality leather suite provided. Primrose Cottage has a luxury material suite.
A great range of self catering amenities in the kitchens include a dishwasher, electric cooker, halogen hob, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, electric carving knife, electric food mixer and toaster. All our cottages have had luxury kitchens fitted with integrated appliances with the exception of Dove which has kept the original bespoke antique pine kitchen. This cottage has had beautiful new granite work tops fitted as part of the refurbishment for 2019. Bedrooms are equipped with plenty of storage and the good quality beds are furnished with comfy deep mattresses.
Other Things to Note
The rental charges includes good quality cotton bedding, towels, tea towels, a free laundry with washers and dryers, and heating for the night storage heaters and electric fire in the lounge. Other facilities at the cottages include free Wi-Fi service, a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and individual parking bays.
We also supply basic essentials such as washing up liquid, some dishwasher tablets, loo rolls along with a surprise welcome gift in the kitchen.
Guests enjoy access to a free onsite laundry with washers and dryers.

From Pickering take the A170 eastwards towards Scarborough, the third village you come to is Allerston, turn right off the main road towards Yedingham and Malton (opposite the Cayley Arms pub). That takes you down the village of Allerston, at the end of the village carry straight on towards Yedingham. You will come to a double bend and then a long straight piece of road, we are on the right, 1 mile after you left Allerston village.
From the A64 head east towards Scarborough, past Malton and about 1 mile after the village of Rillington take a left off on the B1258 towards Yedingham and Snainton. Follow this road for a couple of miles until you come to Yedingham. The road winds its way through the village. You will past the Providence Inn on your left, about 300 yards after the pub take a left turn off the road and then an immediate right towards Allerston. We are one mile along on the left.
