A beautifully restored 18thC farmhouse and barn, Bush Nook Guest House sits in the heart of Hadrian's Wall Country overlooking Birdoswald Roman Fort and the River Irthing Valley at Gilsland, in North East Cumbria.
With two log fired party hot tubs and a spa hot tub, along with a garden room complete with a log burner Bush Nook offers the best of spaces for a relaxing break away. There are a wealth of walking and cycling opportunities around the local area, with the opportunity for bike hire if required.
The World Heritage Roman Wall and Birdoswald Roman Fort are within easy reach, the Pennine Way and South Tyne Trail to the south, Bush Nook is a perfect place to start a day of cycling, walking and exploring in Hadrian's Wall Country.
Rural views from the conservatory are spectacular, and guests also have access to a peaceful lounge area. We have a cosy in-house bar with local beers available from nearby Allendale Brewery. A spacious garden with wonderful views and ample seating on the covered patio to the rear of the house, a great spot for al fresco breakfasts or dinners on warmer days.
Family and Friends Group Accommodation Self Catering
Bush Nook is available for group accommodation on a self-catering basis with a minimum 3-night stay. The accommodation sleeps up to 23 people in a range of ensuite bedrooms, 4xdouble, 1xfamily, 3xtwin,1xtriple and 3xsingles. The accommodation benefits from 2 kitchen areas, substantial lounge and bar space to relax in and a dining space for 23. All rooms benefit from WiFi and Freeview TV complete with Tea and coffee facilities.
As a working B+B, groups have the availability of a substantial kitchen, with Esse range and Stoves 5 induction ring electric range, commercial 3 min dishwasher and all the expect cooking utensils and tableware.
B+B Guest Rooms
All guest rooms include en-suite facilities and are appointed to a very high standard. Rooms situated in our hay loft and hay barn annexe conversion feature open beamed vaulted ceilings and en-suites with a bath and shower.
Twin, double and single rooms are all available, each with their own individual design and character, and named after famous local sites including Birdoswald and Lanercost. Rooms are fully equipped with modern comforts including beds made up with crisp white cotton bedlinen, digital TVs with Freeview, hair dryers, hot drinks making facilities, quality toiletries and fluffy soft towels.
Food and Drinks
Breakfast is fully inclusive and served in the dining room usually between 8am to 9am (early breakfast is available by arrangement). Breakfast choice includes our generous cooked breakfast. Vegetarian and special diets are happily catered for by prior arrangement. Various continental style choices are also available. We use the finest locally sourced produce where possible.
Relax with a drink in the bar area and enjoy award-winning real ales and bitters from the award-winning Allendale Brewery.

Bush Nook sits conveniently just off the A69 which runs between Carlisle and Newcastle. We are just a 2 minute drive off the A69, halfway between Brampton and Haltwhistle. Take the signpost off the A69 for 'Birdoswald', 'Spadeadam' and 'Gisland'. Bush Nook is about half a mile (800 metres) down the hill, on the right hand side, 200 yards on from the wetlands which are off a left hand turn. We look forward to welcoming you.
