An independent hotel in the heart of Ilfracombe, The Darnley Hotel is set within award-winning grounds and has been rated Good or Excellent by reviewers. The seafront and town centre are only a short stroll away, and the hotel has its own private wooded path, illuminated at night, which leads directly down to the High Street. Parking facilities for cars and bicycles is onsite and we're just a short distance from the the Tarka Trail and the South West Coast Path.
We've recently embarked on a series of upgrades and investments to The Darnley which was built in 1921 and retains many original features. In-house facilities include a licensed bar and restaurant serving home-cooked evening meals, and the hotel is perfect for all kinds of functions with a choice of meeting, event and dining spaces available seating up to 25 people.
Six all en-suite rooms are suitable for families, couples and single occupancy. Dog friendly rooms and two ground floor accessible rooms are also available. Choose from our selection of double and twin rooms, a superior double with a king-size sleigh bed and our premier four poster bedroom ideal for couples and romantic breaks.
Two third floor family rooms include a standard and a large family room both with a double bed, 2 singles and 1 cot.

A delicious and varied breakfast menu is included in booking featuring a full English breakfast, vegetarian breakfast, scrambled egg on toast, fruit juice, yoghurts and cereals. Continental options include freshly baked croissants, marmalade and jams, as well as tea and coffee.
Relax in our licensed well stocked bar and enjoy delicious cuisine in our hotel restaurant. We grow our own vegetables within the grounds in our restored Victorian walled kitchen garden, and source local meats, cheeses and ingredients where possible.
Patio doors open out to the garden from the dining room and guests are welcome to enjoy pre-dinner drinks al fresco on warmer days. We endeavour to cater for special diets with advance notice.

Pets are welcome - please let us know in advance if you are bringing your dog with you. A small charge applies per night for dogs except assistance dogs who stay free.

Ilfracombe and the North Devon Coast offers a variety of attractions and activities. Walkers and cyclists are warmly welcomed with the coast path and popular inland trails like the Tarka Trail just footsteps from the hotel's door.
Pick up boat trips across to off-shore Lundy Island from Ilfracombe Harbour or head off and explore the Exmoor Heritage Coast and National Park.
Keen golfers will find a selection of local first class golf courses nearby at Ilfracombe, Saunton and Westward Ho! Horse riding is also available locally and nearby Woolacombe and Croyde beaches are popular with families and surfers.
