The Yorkshire Wolds is a real ramblers hotspot with a host of footpaths and trails criss-crossing the region including the 79-mile Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail. Nestling in hollows and featuring ancient churches, whitewashed cottages and cosy village inns, the Wolds villages are perfect for a relaxing walking getaway, romantic breaks and wildlife watching holidays. Excellent opportunities for cycling and walking are across the Yorkshire Wolds and the region is famed for its choice of farmers markets, farm shops, traditional country inns and agricultural shows.
Yorkshire Wolds Attractions
Visit spectacular country estates in the Yorkshire Wolds like beautiful 18th Century Sledmere House and Regency Wassand Hall, explore the wildlife rich heritage coast around RSPB Bempton Cliffs or spend a day at the races at Beverley Racecourse. The generally traffic free Yorkshire Wolds is ideal for gentle cycling and walking and the region contains a superb range of farm cottages, luxury guest house accommodation, historic small hotels and spacious holiday barns.
Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail
The beautiful Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail stretches for almost 80 miles through gentle scenic East Riding and Wolds landscapes. The trail runs from Hessle on the Humber Estuary just west of Hull, north towards the Yorkshire Wolds passing through Wolds market towns and villages including Market Weighton, Millington, Huggate and Thixendale, then pushes east towards Filey and the heritage coast.
Best walked leisurely to fully appreciate the beauty of the landscapes, idyllic villages and wildlife en-route, the trail in its early stages passes under the Humber Bridge and along the Humber Foreshore before pushing up towards Market Weighton and quintessential English villages such as North Newbald with its ancient church and fine inns. See deserted medieval village Wharram Percy along the Yorkshire Wolds Way, visit the Yorkshire Wolds Heritage Centre at Warter and take a tour of the ancient woodland site of Millington Wood.
