York nightlife is vibrant and eclectic, with huge nighclubs like Kuda pulling in the visitors.  The high population of students adds extra spice to the city’s nightlife scene.  York even has nightlife themed areas like the Latin Quarter!  In recent times York has also become one of the UK’s most popular cities for Stag and Hen party weekends.

Clubs

Kuda

Kuda is York’s largest nightclub split over 3 rooms.  A Tiki themed bar serving fantastic tropical cocktails and the Mambo lounge are downstairs.   As for the dance floor experience, expect the latest LED technology, an amazing sound system and state of the art lighting.  Exclusive booths for a real VIP experience are also available, perfect for that special group celebration or Stag and Hen do.

Society

Society Bar feels like a mini club and has a reputation for great value drink offers, top music and a fun party atmosphere.  Stag and Hen parties and all kinds of celebrations are warmly welcomed.  Open from 9pm till late every Wednesday through Sunday, Society is the venue of choice before hopping across the road to Salvation.

Live Music

Fibbers

Live music fans will be more than familiar with the name of Fibbers York, one of the UK’s longest established live music venues showcasing the very best of national, international and local live music talent.  Club Nights are also on the menu and they like to mix their playlists here.  Hustle & Lollypop Saturdays@ Fibbers plays big pop icons alongside legendary bands and the latest dance favourites.

The Crescent Community Venue

A live music venue with attitude and a weighty history, The Crescent Community Venue is a family run York bar, creative space and live music venue.  The 250 capacity concert room hosts live bands and DJs on various nights through the week.  Themed events include everything from burlesque cabaret shows to Acid House nights and comedy.  If you’re looking for something a bit different in your York nightlife experience head here!

Bars

The Biltmore Bar & Grill

Does a premier champagne weekend with resident DJ and fabulous meals set in an urban chic venue sound good to you?  If so, make your York nightlife venue of choice The Biltmore Bar & Grill.  The Biltmore’s lively bar has a club vibe at weekends with great cocktails.

Revolution York

Many York bars have in-house dance space, and a good example is Revolution York housed in a stunning building.  Revolution has two private bars and two large upstairs areas with their own restrooms and DJ booth.  The lively main bar is downstairs with river views and on warm summer evenings you’ll find quite a crowd on the riverside outdoor garden terrace.  Cocktails, food and party nights are all here in a fantastic city centre location.

Kennedy’s Bar

Kennedy’s is a unique York bar and restaurant with a flexible layout spread across two floors.  A roof top sun terrace is here too in this popular party venue located right in the heart of The Quarter on Little Stonegate.  The interior is ultra modern and DJs or live music artists often feature at weekends.

Bobo Lobo

York has some fabulously chic Cocktail bars at its heart around The Quarter (the central collection of streets located between Stonegate and Petergate).   Bobo Lobo isn’t just one of York’s finest Cocktail bars and grills, it’s also a top venue for private parties and functions with two floors and a DJ on request.  Why not make their ‘Cocktail Mixology Master Class’ part of your private party!

Pubs

York famously has over 350 pubs.  If you like your evenings friendly and more peaceful with real ale on tap you won’t have to look far in the city to find it.

The Golden Fleece

The Golden Fleece opposite the Shambles claims to be York’s Most Haunted pub and the city’s oldest.   Several guests have reported sightings of a ‘Lady Peckett’ wandering the pub’s ancient corridors and staircases!  Acoustic nights are hosted here every Wednesday evening in the Merchants Bar and every Thursday evening in the Shambles Bar.  The pub also hosts it own ‘York Terror Trail’!

The Golden Ball

The Golden Ball on Cromwell Road just across the river serves the finest Yorkshire real ales.  Seven hand pulled cask ales are served here including the big three permanents – Timothy Taylors Golden Best, Everards Tiger and their best seller – Treboom’s Yorkshire Sparkle from a local micro-brewery. This community co-operative pub hosts regular live music and open mic sessions as well as folk nights.  The atmosphere is fantastic in this Grade II Listed pub which retains its Victorian layout and tiled bar.

Comedy

Comedy nights are incredibly popular.  If you want your York nightlife programme to feature a comedy element head to venues like The Basement, York’s great live music, comed and arts events venue.  They host their ‘Laugh Out Loud Comedy’ nights weekly.  Each show has four top comedians and doors open 7.30pm.

Upstairs at The Black Swan

The best of fringe comedy is to be found here at The Black Swan York.  Up and coming comedy talent mingles with big name hosts of ‘Night at the Apollo’ at the Burning Duck Comedy Club.  This really is the venue to head to for the comedy stars of tomorrow.   The venue is as amazing as the comedy night.  The Black Swan is a 15th Century Inn, reputedly haunted and serving a premium range of ales.
