There’s always something going on at Weymouth and Portland. The variety of festivals and events include a Winter Regatta at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy; antique and collectable events; Weymouth Bay fun run; dog shows; triathlons and aquathons; a Ladies Midnight Walk; Armed Forces celebrations; International Canoe events; Pirate and other events at the Nothe Fort; a Rugby Festival; Motorcar Rallies and the regular Quayside Music Festival at the Harbour.
During the warmest months your seaside holiday may well coincide with the Volleyball Classic or the Portland Race Around the Rock – a 10 kilometre run organised by the Royal Manor of Portland Athletics Club – or why not try to get to the town for the late-August Weymouth Carnival Day held on the beach and esplanade. September sees a maritime event at the harbourside, and a Jurassic Coast Mini Car Rally! There are some stunning celebrations for Guy Fawkes Night held on the seafront featuring children’s competitions, a bonfire and fireworks displays.
Pommery Dorset Sea Food Festival
The Pommery Dorset Sea Food Festival (usually held in July around Weymouth Harbourside and Pavilion Forecourt) features over 80 stalls, seafood-galore and even Pommery champagne and celebrity chefs, not to mention local ales!
Weymouth Kite Festival
Weymouth’s annual kite festival takes place on the sandy beach and esplanade in May and is a spectacular colourful display. The event attracts hundreds of kite flyers from far and wide, and is a real hit with families.
Wessex Folk Festival
Wessex Folk Festival is held around Weymouth’s Harbourside in late May/early June, and features singer-songwriters, celidh bands, bluegrass and American old-time music performances, balladeers, and unique Celtic-Goth performers too. With local performers and veterans taking stage alongside talented newcomers and world-renowned musicians, this early summer event is not to be missed.
SandWorld, Weymouth’s Summer-long sand sculpture festival (running from April to November) is a creative treat. With complex sand sculptures frequently housed under cover, this festival brings together some of the world’s very best sand artists.
