Family favourite Weymouth has a huge choice of fun seaside attractions including donkey rides on the beach and fun rides on the sands great for younger children. Attractions are spread along the seafront, as well as in the centre around Radipole nature reserve and on the outskirts at Lodmoor Country Park. It’s easy to move around the resort during half term and at weekends via the recently reintroduced land train which runs along the seafront between Sea Live Adventure Park and the Sea Life Tower.
Traditional seaside fun is here aplenty including Punch and Judy shows, crazy golf, pedalo hire and beach trampolines. If you simply want to relax in the summer sun, you’ll find deck chairs widely available to hire and a plentiful supply of beautiful heritage seating along the esplanade. Don’t miss a tour of Weymouth Museum in the Victorian Brewers Quay building. A famously big equestrian portrait of George III sits in the main gallery. Various Tudor, Georgian and more recent 19th and 20th century relics are on display and there’s also a children’s corner where kids can dress up and enjoy a family trail quiz.
Sea Life Adventure Park & Tower
Weymouth’s great thrilling family attractions are the Sealife Tower on the seafront and the Sea Life Adventure Park with 1000 underwater creatures including sea turtles and sharks, Octopus, a colony of Humboldt Penguins, seals and giant spider crabs. Great events run through the year and there are regular feeding sessions daily. No visit to Weymouth is complete without a trip up the Sea Life Tower for magnificent views of the Bay, Portland and the Jurassic Coast beyond. You ascend up 53m (174ft) in a capsule and once at the top the capsule rotates slowly two times affording ample opportunity to appreciate the views. Book online for best ticket prices on combined entrance for the Adventure Park and Tower. Children under 3 go free!
Lodmoor Country Park, Sandworld & Adventure Golf
Lodmoor Country Park is just a 15 minute walk from Weymouth centre, and it’s here where you’ll find the Sea Life Cente and Pirate Adventure Golf Course. The park covers a mammoth 350 acres, and contains a cafe and large inn serving food. An RSPB nature reserve is at the heart of the country park, home to seamarsh birds which you can view via a circular walkway which is wheelchair friendly. A 9 hole pitch and putt golf course is open across the summer months and there’s plenty of fun activities for children including a huge timber galleon play ship and a bird’s nest swing. Sandworld is also here at Lodmoor Country Park with world class sand sculptures on display from mid-April until the end of October!
The Weymouth Pavilion on the Esplanade, built in 1908, is a great seaside family theatre with lots of fun family shows across the summer season and a festive panto at Christmas. Musicals, ballet and more are all on offer and regular events include Sunday night comedy. The venue is available for weddings and in-house amenities include the Ritz Cafe.
