We’ve got some great suggestions for where to find fun for all the family this Halloween and October half term! Feeling brave …. hop aboard a special Ghost Train service on steam railways or how about some Nick or Treating fun at Blackpool’s Vampire Pleasure Beach theme park! From haunted castles to the most haunted islands and Monsters’ Balls, there’s some spooktacular things to do this Halloween!

1. Vampire Pleasure Beach, Blackpool

Head down to Nickelodeon Land every Saturday and Sunday during Halloween Half term for Nick or Treating fun and look out for pumpkins, scarecrows and abandoned coffins! After 4pm during the event the park transforms into a ghostly spine-chilling theme park with hordes of Zombies and Vampires let loose from their catacombs. All wristband or Pleasure Beach Pass holders in Halloween fancy dress get a ‘Free Vampire Blood Slush Cocktail’ which is alcohol free.

Lookout too for spooktacular goings on at Blackpool Zoo from Saturday 25 October to Sunday 2 November including Creepy Creative Corners, a Playbarn Halloween Party and a Ghost Hunt!

2. York Ghost Walks Weekends

One of UK’s best cities for ghost walks, York offers a choice of favourite ghost walks. Join the multi award-winning Ghost Trail starting outside the Minster (west doors) nightly from 7.30pm. The trail lasts around 1 hour, 10 minutes and weaves its way around the city accompanied by a commentary of traditional tales, accounts of Victorian tragedies and more recent ghostly phenomena.

Alternatively join the Ghost Creeper of York on his evening tour around dark streets and narrow passageways – tours start outside the Coppergate Shopping Centre and begin at 7.30pm. Spooky goings on elsewhere in the city include Spooktacular Fun this October Half Term at the Yorkshire Museum and don’t miss a visit to York Dungeons.

3. Muncaster Castle, Ravenglass, Cumbria

Famed as one of Britain’s most haunted castles, Muncaster Castle in Cumbria is the place to be this Halloween with various events planned for adults and children. The famous Halloween fireworks display at Muncaster takes place on Sunday 30th, they’ll be a Ghostly Grotto with spooky crafts and ‘Arroween’ archery.

Other highlights include the Hawk & Owl Centre’s fabulous Twilight Owls display, a Scary Maze, a Monster Cabaret and evening Castle Ghost Tours.

4. Halloweden in Cornwall

An evening of fang-tastic fun awaits at the the Eden Project’s spine-tingling disco plus onsite ice rink. It’s a Rave-A-Roo for kids as seen on CBeebies and look out for DJ Spookmonster Mash back again this year with his troop of creepy dancers. Other great Halloween themed things going on across the attraction include a creepy crawly bugfest, a trick or treat trail and look out for the fire dancers! This Monsters’ Ball event takes place on Saturday 29th October.

5. Spooky Circus on the East Lancashire Railway

Are you feeling brave? If yes, then why not take a trip on a Halloween Ghost Train! Two great ones including the East Lancashire Railway’s Halloween Ghost Train with spooky circus on board including creepy clowns and giggling ghouls. Every child gets a goody bag of tricks and treats, plus the Creepy Carnival is in town at Rawtenstall in Lancashire. This event takes place on 28, 29 and 31st October.

6. Scary Scarecrow Trail at Mother Shipton’s Cave

Children will love the ghostly fun for all the family at Mother Shipton’s Cave in Knaresborough which this year features a spooky Scarecrow Trail – Halloween themed costumes are encouraged!!

7. Isle of Fright

No other off shore British island does Halloween better than the Isle of Fright (Wight) with spooky events across the island to suit all ages. Highlights include Carisbrooke Castle’s host of October Half Term ghoulish goings on and the special Ghost Train Service on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. 8. Head down a Haunted Showcave! Wookey Hole

Favourite Halloween Cave jaunts in the UK include the legendary Wookey Hole with Witch’s Grotto – be there at Wooky from 22 to 30 October and see the Halloween Circus Show and a Dracula film in a 4D cinema.

9. Kids in Fancy Dress go Free at The World of Beatrix Potter

Kids in Halloween themed fancy dress go free on Sunday 30th October from 10am to 4pm at The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in Bowness on Windermere (if accompanied by a paying adult!).

10. Halloween Exhibition at the Museum of Whitchcraft & Magic, Boscastle

Now’s the time of year to visit one of Britain’s best loved independent museums – the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic at Boscastle in North Cornwall. This museum gem has the world’s largest collection of items relating to witchcraft and magic, and is still a bit of a well kept secret. One of the 2016 exhibitions is ‘Glitter and Grave Dust. Halloween Past & Present’. Open daily until 31st October!
