St. Mawes Tourist Information

St Mawes, South Cornwall

St Mawes Castle
St Mawes on the South Cornwall coast sits on the western edge of the Roseland Peninsula Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village with its famous headland castle, pretty shops, many art galleries, inns, restaurants and beautiful harbour sits at the mouth of the estuary overlooking Falmouth. A spectacular coast and country scene of hidden coves and creeks, woodland and headland cliffs surrounds St Mawes and the central beach is stunning, popular for bathing, kayaking and sailing, with all the amenities of the village adjacent making it perfect for families.
The area is also a mecca for yachting and boating. St Mawes has three boatyards and ample mooring and anchorage space sits around the Peninsula. You’ll also find sailing clubs at St Mawes, Portloe and Portscatho. St Mawes Castle (English Heritage) is one of Henry VIII’s most spectacularly preserved coastal artillery forts. Around St Mawes you can head off and explore the beautiful Roseland Peninsula with its choice of spectacular beaches and charming fishing villages including Portloe, Portscatho and Portholland.
The nearby town of Falmouth is a thirty mile road journey from St. Mawes, though only a mile by water. From St. Mawes, pick up the ferry to Falmouth, a twenty minute boat trip which runs all year round and is one of Cornwall’s most scenic boat trips. The village has a thriving fishing industry, and you can pick up fishing trips from the harbour, and purchase freshly caught seafood from fish shops on the quayside. St Mawes is a top spot for foodie fans – in the village you’ll find a superb selection of gastro inns and restaurants serving up the best of locally caught fish and shellfish. Boat trips also head up the full length of the estuary from St Mawes Harbour to Truro. St Mawes and the spectacular surrounding Roseland Peninsula offer an outstanding choice of luxury holiday cottages, apartments and B&Bs.
