Spinnaker Tower on Portsmouth Waterfront – Britain On View

Next to Gunwharf Quays is the iconic sight of the Spinnaker Tower widely regarded as Britain’s best viewing tower. The 170 metre tall tower dominates the skyline of Portsmouth Harbour and is taller than the London Eye, Blackpool Tower and Big Ben. Its primary purpose is as a viewing tower from which you can get a 350 degree view of Portsmouth Harbour and the surrounding south coast stretching for 23 miles on a clear day.

View Deck 1 has a glass floor that you can walk across while looking at the view below! View Deck 2 tells you more about the history of the harbour via the multimedia "Time Telescope" and View Deck 3 is the highest point, the Crows Nest, which is open to the elements bringing the views into full focus. Spinnaker Tower is open daily all year round except for Christmas Day. There is an admission fee which you can buy online or direct from the tower. (combined tickets to Spinnaker Tower and other museums/attractions at the Historic Dockyard are also available – see the website for details). An audio guide is provided and you can pick up gifts and souvenirs in The Spinnaker Tower shop which you can enter without going up the Tower.

On-site cafes include the ground level Waterfront Cafe with floor to ceiling glass windows affording great views of Portsmouth Harbour. A delicious full lunch menu is available here as well as a range of hot and cold snacks and drinks, plus a fantastic cake collection. Open daily, the Cafe in the Clouds on View Deck Two in the Spinnaker Tower has to be one of Britain’s best viewpoint cafes with its panoramic views of Portsmouth Harbour. Take High Tea in the Clouds or hire the cafe for a private function. High Tea packages include tower entrance and make great gifts or festive treats.

Looking for that extra special wedding or civil partnership venue? The Spinnaker Tower is the perfect choice with its View Deck 2 offering magnificent views which you can admire with your guests after the ceremony whilst enjoying champagne and canapes. Up to 70 wedding guests can be accommodated – it’s the ultimate wedding venue.
