The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is held each Summer in the grounds of the beautiful and brooding Edinburgh Castle.
It truly is a wonderful showcase for the pomp and ceremony of massed pipe and drum bands, military displays, dance troupes and other entertainers, And, of course, who can forget the eerie and haunting Lone Piper…
In recent times such themes as Nature and Creativity have inspired the participants, and, although the event is archetypally Scottish, the international depth of the Tattoo cannot be understated. It can be viewed on television screen in more than 30 countries with an annual audience of 100 million watching throughout the world. Over 46 countries have been represented at past tattoos, with around 30% of each year’s participants being from overseas.
How wonderful it is to watch this spectacular event on the television, but why not try to make it in person this year, to soak up the atmosphere of the castle, the entertainers and the enthusiastic spectators?

Where to stay for the Edinburgh Tattoo
Tickets to the Tattoo do need early booking, so why not book your accommodation within Edinburgh with us at the same time? We can offer a wide choice of hotel or self-catering based accommodation within the city centre itself, but we also encourage you to consider taking a break outside of the busy city to stay on the quieter outskirts. Perhaps take in one or two of Edinburgh’s museums or explore the surrounding countryside. Do take a look below for more information and some inspirational ideas.
