Yorkshire’s great garden racecourse, Ripon Races in North Yorkshire is a flat racing course hosting 16 race meets annually from April to September. This beautiful parkland course has been welcoming visitors for around 300 years and is a Gold Rose Yorkshire in Bloom award-winner. You’ll never miss any of the racing action at Ripon – the course is one of the few with a permanent giant screen in place. Easily combined with a North Yorkshire holiday, Ripon Races sit on the southern edge of the Cathedral City, just off the A1(M), Junction 48. Special events feature the Big Friday Night, Family Fun Day in May and Ripon’s famous summer Ladies’ Day, known as the ‘Ladies’ Day of the North’.
Fixtures & Highlights
Flat racing across Ripon’s annual 16 race meets includes some feature race days like the July Ripon Bellringer Handicap and the August William Hill Great St Wilfrid Handicap. The course also ends its season with the feature Ripon, Cathedral City of the Dales Handicap in late September. Don’t miss the Big Friday Night Event accompanied by a Theakston mini beer festival. Ripon is one of the eight Yorkshire flat racecourses which participates in the celebrated annual Yorkshire Summer Festival. Popular meets include the early August Children’s Day with a range of free activities centred around the Course Enclosure including The National Festival Circus Big Top Showdown!
Ripon Enclosures include the Club Stand, the Paddock Enclosure and the Course Enclosure all with their own unique appeal and facilities. The Club stand with raised terraced area, Champagne Bar and a choice of dining options includes access to all public areas including the Parade Ring.
The Paddock Enclosure with Theakstons Terrace Bar and raised terrace area also features a selection of other bars including a Champagne Bar plus a cafe, fish & chip shop and access to the Parade Ring. Picnics are permitted in this enclosure. The Course Enclosure with onsite bar and tea bar serving a choice of drinks in the pleasant undercover embankment area is located right in the heart of the Racecourse complex and from the raised embankment area you can see the entire course!

Choose from a range of Race Day Packages available featuring everything from BBQ Packages to Platinum Packages catering for all budgets and tastes. Various food and drink outlets are onsite including a Theakstons Bar, Champagne and Seafood bar and fish & chips outlets. Parties, celebrations and conference events are all warmly welcomed. Ripon offers a choice of catering services from finger buffet to four course meal service. Eight private boxes are available including the fabulous Rowels boxes on the top floor of the Grandstand – Ripon’s ultimate race day experience. Rowels boxes can accommodate 20 to 100 guests, with private marquees happily organised for parties of up to 200.
Accessible just off the A1(M), Ripon Racecourse is off Junction 48 if approaching from the South. Visitors arriving by road from the North should exit the A1 where it joins up with the A61 (the Ripon Bypass), then left for the racecourse at the third roundabout. Ample free parking is available onsite in the main car park and your nearest station is Harrogate and Thirsk stations both just 11 miles away. Regular bus services run direct to Ripon from Leeds, Harrogate, Northallerton, Thirsk and York. The Racecourse is also within an easy drive of Leeds Bradford Airport.
