Pontefract’s 16 race meets include the 3 Family Sundays, 10 midweek afternoon meets and 3 evening race meets. Evening meets are usually followed by themed music nights or festivals and the race course hosts a popular Ladies Day each year in early August. Pontefract is also at the heart of the annual Yorkshire Summer Racing Festival with a Sunday festival race day in July. The racecourse always features special themed days during the season.
Pontefract has four Enclosure areas – the Premier Enclosure, the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure, the Silver Enclosure and Picnic Enclosure. A Premier Enclosure Badge gives you access to all other Enclosures, plus a range of luxury facilities in the Premier Enclosure itself including a Champagne Bar, Park Suite and Premier Sports Cafe Bar. The Parade Ring and owner/ trainer facilities are also here. The Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure is one of the most popular options, with inclusive access to both the Silver and Picnic Enclosures. Here at The Grandstand and Paddock you’ll find a choice of friendly bars, The Parade Ring, a self-service style dining area and terraced viewing stands.
The Silver Enclosure sits just 100 yards from the Winning Post and features an onsite bar, fast food outlets, a tea bar and Silver lounge bar. The Picnic Enclosure is great value and a popular choice with families, featuring an extensive grass space always busy on family Sunday race meet days. Parking is conveniently directly adjacent to the Picnic Enclosure and you’ll also find a tea bar and fast food outlets in this area.
Ideally situated just off the M62, Pontefract Racecourse is the perfect location for your conference or banqueting event. A bus stop is conveniently located just outside the race course and railway stations including Monkhill, Tanshelf and Baghill are all within easy reach. Glasshoughton station next to the Xscape leisure complex is just 2 miles from the course.
