The Victorian seaside town of Penarth is located just four miles from Cardiff. It’s a great place for a day trip from the Welsh capital city, and trains on the Valley Lines offer cheap travel every fifteen minutes between the two. The journey takes approximately ten minutes. Penarth has its own accommodation if you’d prefer to stay in the area, and is the location of the Cosmeston Lakes Country Park which is a flooded limestone quarry surrounded by fields.

The Comeston Medieval Village is a living history Medieval village located within the country park, and has an on-site visitor centre and cafe. It’s free to enter, and not to be missed when you’re visiting Penarth. The town’s other attractions include the Turner Art Gallery and the Alexandra Gardens park leading down towards the sea front.

If you’re looking to visit for a special event, book a stay during the annual Penarth Holiday Festival. This two-week celebration includes live music and entertainment, firework displays and boat races, a donkey derby, dances, parades and fairgrounds. It’s been held every July since 1966, and takes place in various venues throughout the town. Whether you choose to visit for the Holiday Festival, or to book your break for any other time, you’ll find Penarth accommodation here on our site.
