Constantine Bay

Just two miles west of Padstow around Trevose Head spectacular surfing and family beach territory awaits at Constantine Bay backed on by sand dunes and a rocky reef. A choice of surf schools are located in the area, offering surf tuition for all abilities and great surfing packages for groups. Surf equipment hire is available right on the beach and the Bay takes on two different shapes at low and high tide. At low tide it connects with neighbouring beach, Booby’s Bay, creating a long sandy bay stretching for half a mile. At high tide it’s a shelving beach. Access to Booby’s to the north is from Constantine at low tide, or via a path near the golf course.

Surfers can expect some serious rips at Constantine Bay which has a lifeguard service across peak season, so be aware of coloured flag warnings. Facilities are excellent and include ample parking, toilets and a surf shop (Constantine Bay Surf Store). Constantine Bay is also a dog friendly beach. Pubs, restaurants and cafes are nearby at St Merryn village and Padstow’s many cafes, restaurants and bistros are within easy reach. Nightlife haunts for surfers include the Dog House in St. Merryn, Rick Stein’s The Cornish Arms, also in St. Merryn and restaurants and bars in nearby Higher Harlyn. Accommodation around Constantine Bay and Harlyn Bay includes campsites, B&Bs, guesthouses, family holiday parks and cottages.

Harlyn Bay

Harlyn Bay situated on the eastern side of Trevose Head is a more sheltered beach offering a gentler surf scene. Surfers usually head to Harlyn beach if conditions are too rough at Constantine. The headland shelters Harlyn nicely, and it’s a stunning beach with nearly a mile of mixed sand and pebbles, and a backdrop of sand dunes. Harlyn village is conveniently adjacent with all its facilities, and the Bay is well equipped with toilets, car parking, a cafe, a shop and a pub situated just across from the beach. Award-winning Harlyn Bay is a dog friendly beach and just behind the beach sit the remains of an Iron Age cemetery! A wide choice of surf schools are in the area including accredited Harlyn Surf School.
