Norwich is famed for its unique shopping experience featuring a magical mix of best city centre markets, independent department stores and historic shopping arcades like Art Nouveau Royal Arcade lined with independent and specialist shops. The city centre is mostly pedestrianised and packed with medieval lanes and side alleys containing gift and craft shops. Take a tour of the famous Colman’s Mustard Shop in Royal Arcade. Norwich has the largest open air Monday to Saturday market in the UK located right in the heart of the city centre near City Hall. Around 200 market stalls sell everything from clothes and confectionery to local seasonal vegetables and fruits. Major high street favourites are all represented in the city centre. M&S and John Lewis stores in Norwich are flagship stores. The city has two large shopping centres – Castle Mall and Chapelfield – both offering a huge choice of well known high street stores and a selection of cafes and restaurants. Cathedral Retail Park is also just outside the city centre.
Christmas shopping and markets in the city centre are not to be missed. Norwich’s city centre Christmas Lights blend with the city’s heritage architecture to great effect. Famous historic buildings including the Art Deco City Hall, the 15th century Guildhall and Norwich Castle are all lit up in silver and gold. Fabulous Christmas and Winter Food Markets run across the Christmas season in the 900 year old market place.
