Newquay has an excellent choice of family attractions including Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium. Enjoy steam train rides on the Lappa Valley Railway or have fun in the pools at Waterworld in Trenance Park. Other fun days out include the Holywell Bay Fun Park and Dairyland Farm World with its friendly animals, playgrounds, indoor play areas, feeding opportunities and mini tractors. Kids will adore pony rides at Springfield’s fun park and pony centre at nearby St Columb Major or meet some feathered friends at the Screech Owl Sanctuary. For a relaxing day out visit Trerice Manor (National Trust), a beautiful Elizabethan manor house at Kestle Mill or enjoy a walk around the Japanese Garden and Bonsai Nursery at St Mawgan. Newquay also offers excellent golf facilities or enjoy a game of tennis at the Heron Tennis Centre.

The resort’s many festivals are also a major draw. Boardmasters Festival takes place at Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay every August, and is Europe’s only skate, surf and music festival. Newquay is also the destination of the Run to the Sun Festival, a unique event combining VW Beetles and music. The town also hosts one of Cornwall’s largest fish and local craft/produce festivals every September. A great choice of boat trips and fishing trips are available from Newquay Harbour including pleasure trips around the bay, seal safari boat trips and deep sea fishing trips.

Blue Reef Aquarium

The Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay sits right alongside Towan Beach, and is one of the resort’s most popular tourist attractions. See marine life and sharks close up in the vast ocean tank and underwater tunnel. The Aquarium has an active breeding programme and in the Nursery you’ll see a diverse range of species including sea horses, sharks, rays, pipefish, Bangaii cardinal fish, cuttlefish and more. The amazing Giant Pacific Octopus are a big favourite – they have three hearts, blue blood and amazing memories! Marine creatures found locally around Cornish sandy seabeds are also here such as pipefish, weaver fish and high colour wrasse. The Claws zone is the crustacean habitat where you’ll see crabs, lobsters and typical rock pool marine life and Colourful Corals is home to some of the most colourful reef fish in their own naturally themed habitat packed with beautiful soft and hard corals.

Newquay Zoo & Trenance Gardens

Award winning Newquay Zoo sits alongside several other fantastic family attractions, including Waterworld, in Trenance Park just inland from Newquay. Accessible and offering a huge range of animal encounters including a sub-tropical lakeside garden with hundreds of animals, Newquay Zoo also features a Tropical House with penguin pool, a Tarzan Trail and daily keeper talks. With a keen emphasis on entertainment and education, Newquay Zoo guarantees a fun family day out with highlights including a rainforest exhibition. Activities for children and year round themed events range from face painting and activity trails to an on-site Dragon Maze, daily feeding sessions and art/ craft activities.
