Kingussie

An outdoor activity mecca on the western edge of the Cairngorms, Kingussie near Aviemore is an upper Spey Valley jewel in the Highlands, and capital of the Badenoch region. Activity choice available in surrounding pine forests and the Monadhliath Mountains include everything from rambling and pony trekking to golf, RSPB wetland reserves, fishing and in the winter season skiing.

Famed as the setting of TV series ‘Monarch of the Glen’, Kingussie caters well for its many visitors, with a choice of quality accommodation options, independent shops, cafes and restaurants. The town is also a centre for the ancient Gaelic field sport of Shinty. The Kingussie Shinty team regularly play at the local Dell ground.

The lochs and mountains around Kingussie are rich in wildlife and birds, with popular birdwatching areas including the Insh Marshes National Nature Reserve around Loch Insh, an important flood plain mire in the UK where you’ll see Ospreys, redstarts, great spotted woodpeckers, goldeneye ducks and more. It’s Highland Scotland’s great outdoors at its best – book Kingussie accommodation with Iknow.
