Helmsley Tourist Information

Helmsley Castle
A picturesque market town on the South Western edge of the North York Moors National Park, Helmsley is a popular holiday base offering easy access to some of the Moorland’s most popular attractions including nearby Rievaulx and Byland Abbeys. Situated close to the Cleveland Way National Trail which skirts around the outskirts of the National Park, Helmsley is brimming with rare second hand bookshops, craft shops, traditional real ale inns and bistro style restaurants and cafes all clustered around a pretty market square.
Helmsley’s landmark castle began life as a mighty Medieval fortress, transformed during the Tudor period into a private mansion and immortalised by the Victorians as one of their favourite romantic ruins. Stroll round the five acre Helmsley Walled Garden and take in a variety of arts performances at the Helmsley Arts Centre.
Take a tour of Duncombe Park and visit the National Trust’s Nunnington Hall manor house with organic garden just to the south east of the market town. The perfect base for walking and touring the North York Moors – book Helmsley accommodation now with Iknow.
