Hayle on St Ives Bay in West Cornwall is a popular location for family beach holidays. Beaches & Surfing

Towans is Cornish for dunes, and the sand dunes on Hayle beach give it a unique character. Hayle has three miles of golden sandy beach space stretching all the way to Godrevy Lighthouse and offering safe bathing for families. A lifeguard service is available across peak season on the Towans and facilities include adjacent parking, a cafe and toilets. No dogs are permitted during peak summer, except on Mexico Towans. The great sweep of beaches in the Hayle area include Hayle Towans, Black Cliff and Mexico Towans which together offer miles and miles of golden sandy beaches at the mouth of the estuary. Hayle Towans, otherwise known as the Upton Towans beach is a stunning sandy beach bay. Popular surfing beaches are at nearby Gwithian and Godrevy. Gwithian is one of Cornwall’s top surfing beaches with a cafe on the beach, toilets, adjacent parking and a lifeguard service across the summer season.

Award-winning Paradise Park in Hayle is a top family attraction and one of Cornwall’s best loved wildlife sanctuaries, open all year round except on Christmas Day. The attraction includes Jungle Barn indoor play centre and it’s the home of the World Parrot Trust! The indoor soft play area has giant slides and a separate play area for toddlers. The park has over 650 varieties of birds including local breeds like red-billed Cornish choughs as well as exotic parrots, toucans and flamingos, many of which are rare. Meet and greet furry friends on the Fun Farm with goats, rabbits, guinea pigs and donkeys. The Park is also home to Red pandas, otters, penguins, birds of prey and Red squirrels. Hayle Estuary & Godrevy

Hayle is a ‘Walkers are Welcome’ coastal town perfect for walking and birdwatching holidays. The estuary never freezes so is an important resting place for wintering wildfowl including wigeons, teals and shelducks. The Hayle Estuary is home to large numbers of waders and seabirds, and an RSPB Reserve is located here. Pied-billed Grebe have been spotted regularly around Hayle Harbour and towards the eastern end at Copperhouse Creek you might catch a glimpse of adult Ring-billed Gulls. The Godrevy area at the edge of the Towans around the headland and lighthouse is a renowned area for wildlife and birdwatching. Coastal walking here is magnificent, and you’ll see a variety of birds including Cormorants, Razorbills and Oyster catchers. You might also spot a few grey seals too!
