Wreck of Helvetica on Rhossili beach
Gower, often known as The Gower Peninsula, is indeed a peninsula in South West Wales, covering the area from Swansea to Rhossili Bay. Most of Gower (including such villages as Rhossili, Mumbles, Pennard and Port Eynon) is accessible via the A4118 and other smaller roads.
What’s Gower like?
The peninsula measures only around seven by sixteen miles, but includes a remarkably large number of historic features, and more than its fair share of gorgeous, sheltered bays for Summer days out.

Rhossili Beach
Outdoors Activity
Why not Go Ape! in the trees at Margam Country Park then come down to earth to visit its large deer herd? Or visit Aberglasney House/Gardens which have been inspiring many since 1477. Also available in Gower is Coasteering – cliff jumping, ducking under gullies and swimming into sea caves – a fantastic guided adventure. But for something a little less energetic, take an adventure boat around the coast or try mountain boarding at Weobly Castle. Gower is also a target for surfers, having some of the best UK conditions with lots of location choices to cater for all conditions and difficulties, wind speed and swell size.
But even if you prefer a more traditional kind of beach holiday, Gower will blow you away. Llangennith is a renowned surfing beach, but Rhossili is one of the best beaches in the world – the most dog friendly, and the location of one of the best coastal walks, etc. Or spot the shipwreck at the waterline. Swansea Bay is award-winning too – the Enjoy Gower website says of this area’s beaches – "Their variety is renowned – from the jaw-dropping vastness of Rhossili, to the tiny, secluded Pwll Du; the wild ponies and cockle-beds of Penclawdd, to the superlative views across Three Cliffs Bay".

Oystermouth Castle, Gower
Castles!
Gower is blessed with a large choice of historic features to visit. From Oystermouth Castle, overlooking Swansea Bay which has parts dating back to the twelfth century, to Weabley Castle and Arthur’s Stone in Reynoldstone, there’s so much to see.
How to get to Gower
The Gower Peninsula is easily accessible to the UK’s motorway network as the M4 is close by. From the M4 connect to your choice of A roads to explore the peninsula. Trains run to Llanelli, Gowerton (at the base of the peninsula) and Swansea.
