Formby Beaches

Formby beaches are spectacular all year round, not just in summer. You can go for a romantic stroll along the beach with your partner, or build sandcastles with the kids and go sunbathing during the sunny months. Dogs are also welcome on Formby’s beaches, as long as you make sure they’re kept on a lead at all times.

The sand dunes at Formby aren’t just beautiful they’re also a treasure trove of history! Over many, many years the sand dunes have slowly eroded away to reveal the layers underneath, containing early Bronze Age footprints from both humans and animals. You can go hunting for examples of these footprints while you’re walking on the beach.

The Formby coast is renowned for its great watersports. You can go surfing and kite surfing off the beaches. (permits are required from Formby Council for kite-surfing). You can go boating and sailing at Formby, although Formby doesn’t have its own launching facilities and for more award-winning beach space head a little further north to the glorious sands of Ainsdale. Find your perfect Formby accommodation for a beach, walking or golfing holiday online now and book!
