Edinburgh’s annual Summer book festival describes itself as “the largest public celebration of the written word in the world”. It brings together over 800 authors, writers and thinkers from all over the planet, all united in their mutual love of the written word. Each year’s programme is around 100 pages long and is crammed with events for young children and teens (the Baillie Gifford Children’s Programme), as well as signings and talks with new and well established authors.
Events all take place in Charlotte Square Gardens (nearby to Princes Street), in two well-stocked bookshops and a book signing tent, and the nearby area caters well for visitors with its cafes and bars. Close to the Waverley railway station, this is an accessible event for book lovers of all ages. More about the event can be discovered at
