Dog Walks on The Jurassic Coast

Your pampered pooch is in for some real coastal walking treats around Weymouth where the cliff top South West Coast Path beckons – just remember to keep dogs on leads along cliff top paths and around cattle and sheep. Dogs are allowed along the entire length of the 630 mile long South West Coast Path. There’s some great advice on taking your dog for walks along the Path on the trail’s official website. The site also recommends moderate and challenging walks on the Jurassic Coast around the resort including dog friendly walks guaranteed to amaze like the Durdle Door and White Nothe Walk on the Purbeck Heritage Coast (east of Weymouth) featuring some of Britain’s most spectacular coastal views and rock formations! Dogs on leads are also permitted on the outer seaward flank of Chesil Beach west of Weymouth between Abbotsbury and Portland (open season from September to April).

Lead the Way – Pet Friendly Attractions

Weymouth & Portland attractions which welcome dogs on a lead include the RSPB’s Radipole Lake with newly refurbished Wild Weymouth Discovery Centre. Dogs (on leads and under close control) are allowed on public footpaths and bridleways within this spectacular reserve. You can also take dogs on leads into Trout Quarry Sculpture Park right in the centre of the Isle of Portland where you and your furry friend can discover over 50 ‘hidden’ sculptures along footpaths.

Kennels For Day Boarding

If you are holidaying in Weymouth with your dog and looking to visit attractions in the area which don’t welcome dogs, you’ll find some great friendly kennels around the resort offering day boarding for as little as £10 per dog per day. Valentines dog kennels just one mile west of Weymouth in the Chickerell area offer a day boarding service – contact them direct prior to your holiday to book a day boarding service in advance.
