Chester Racecourse – Britain’s Oldest Racecourse
Located in the centre of Chester, Britain’s oldest racecourse – Chester Racecourse, commonly known as ‘The Roodee’ is famed for its glamorous edge. Roodie means ‘Roods Eye’ or ‘the isle of the cross’. Prior to the estuary silting up, the site of today’s racecourse was the spot where Roman ships pulled up to harbour coming in from the Irish sea.
