Bude, North Cornwall Coast
Bude on the North Cornwall Atlantic coast near the Devon border is a charming small town famed for its award-winning beaches and surfing, its historic canal and fabulous coastal scenery. Bude’s beaches are some of the cleanest and best in the country for surfing and watersports and a popular tidal sea pool is at Summerleaze beach. Created in the 1930s, the Sea Pool is topped up twice daily by the Atlantic waves and offers a unique swimming experience perfect for families. Many surfing and outdoor activity centres in Bude offer a range of courses including canoeing, kayaking, surfing and boogie boarding, or you can stay indoors enjoying the water at the Splash Leisure Pool, Bude’s swimming pool complete with a flume and wave machine.

Bude’s range of activities aren’t just on the water. Explore Bude’s beautiful canal and walk or cycle along the towpath rich in bird and wildlife. Exciting attractions nearby include The Weir just 3 miles south of the resort featuring an interactive wildlife centre, a lakeside cafe serving the finest local produce and a choice of trails. The Weir is easily accessible from the Sustrans National Cycle Path, the South West Coast Path and the Canal Footpath. Bude is one of the UK’s top surfing resorts. Widemouth Bay just one mile from the resort is a favourite spot for learning to surf. For golfers, the 18 hole links course at North Cornwall and Bude Golf Club in the centre of the town offers a great golfing challenge.
Discover a range of family fun activities at Tamar Lakes Country Park offering fishing, cycling, sailing and watersports. An outdoor activity centre sits at the Upper Tamar offering everything from windsurfing to kayaking and sailing. Find out all about Bude at the town’s heritage centre at The Castle, former home of Victorian inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney, with exhibition galleries, a shop and restaurant. Bude events include a prestigious annual Jazz Festival in early September and the award-winning Leopallooza Festival – the ‘Greatest House Party .. in a field’ in August.
