The Grand Theatre
Blackpool’s iconic Grand Theatre first opened in July 1894 and is famed as ‘Matcham’s Masterpiece’. The theatre is one of a few survivors in the UK designed by the great theatre designer Frank Matcham and offers an eclectic mix of drama (particularly innovative comedy drama), variety, big name musicals and popular stand up comedy. Edinburgh Fringe award-winners can often be seen here in one of Britain’s top theatre nights out and The Grand pays a key part in some of Blackpool’s popular festivals like the annual February Showzam!
A variety of shows and events are held in Blackpool’s iconic Winter Gardens from West End musicals and pop concerts in The Opera House to festivals, vintage fairs, balls and national/international dance and sports competitions. The Empress Grill Room at Winter Gardens is one of Blackpool’s classic dining venues and a selection of bars and cafes are also inside. The eleven separate venues spread across two floors are popular conference and exhibition spaces in the resort and the beautiful Opera House theatre is one of the UK’s largest seating nearly 3000. The greatest of entertainers have performed in here from Frank Sinatra to more recently Peter Kay, and today big name pop artists and shows are on offer here.
