Battle is home to the site of one of England’s most historic events, The Battle of Hastings in 1066, and the beautiful Battle Abbey was founded in 1095 by William I to commemorate this event. Visitors can take short or extensive tours of the Abbey and battle site and learn all about the it’s history including how the Abbey was later dissolved by Henry VIII in the mid 16th Century. The Yesterday’s World attraction is very popular with families for its interactive displays and exhibitions on social history right through to the 1970’s. The town of Battle grew up around the attraction of the Abbey and is home to boutique shops, tea rooms and pubs.
