About Colwith Cottage

A luxury holiday villa, Colwith Cottage near Ambleside sits in a beautiful setting overlooking the Langdale Pikes.  Colwith forms part of a magnificent stone built manor house set within the stunning private grounds of the Neaum Crag estate, just yards from Skelwith Bridge and Loughrigg Tarn.  The cottage features a charming patio area with attractive garden furniture, a BBQ and glorious views.  Free WiFi is available, and many rooms have picture-postcard views of the surrounding fells.  Lookout for deer often spotted in the grounds!

Ambleside and Grasmere are a mere two and a half miles away, as is the head of Lake Windermere and there are a number of scenic walks leading directly from your doorstep, with breathtaking views of the surrounding Lake District.  Closer to home, guests have shared use of an indoor heated swimming pool and games room which is open from March to November and located just 100 metres from your door.

Living Space

  • Elevated dining area with a large picture-postcard window affording spectacular 180 degree views of the Langdale Pikes, Coniston and surrounding valleys.
  • Fully fitted modern kitchen with an automatic washing machine, a microwave, dishwasher, an electric oven and hob, a fridge and all necessary kitchen accessories including tea towels, washing up liquid and dishwasher tabs.

Bedrooms/ Bathroom

  • Light and spacious double bedroom with a king-size 5' bed and stylish co-ordinated painted furnishings.  This bedroom has fabulous views across the valley.
  • Cosy twin bedroom featuring a walk-in wardrobe.  This room also has stunning rural views.
  • Bed linen and duvets are all inclusive.
  • Bathroom with a bath, shower and a wc.
  • An extra separate wc is also available.


The landscaped terraced patio has magnificent views of the grounds and surrounding Langdale Valley, and is a great spot for wildlife watching and al fresco dining.   A dining area with garden furniture, a barbecue and grill are available.

Guests have shared use of the heated indoor swimming pool and games room (open March to November) situated 100 metres from your doorstep.

Around and About

We are just 2 1/2 miles from Ambleside, a popular tourist centre and an ideal starting point for excursions, walking, cycling, fishing, water sports and sailing or driving to all areas of Central Lakeland.  Pick up boat trips on Lake Windermere from Ambleside's Waterhead Pier.  Numerous inns, restaurants, cafes and character independent shops feature in the surrounding area.

Grasmere is also 2 1/2 miles away from Colwith.  Visit their famous Gingerbread shop or Dove Cottage, the former home of William Wordsworth.

Slightly further afield is Bowness on Windermere.  Why not take the kids to the Beatrix Potter Museum or hire a rowing boat and take in the views from the lake.  There is something to do for everyone.

Colwith is available from 4pm on your arrival day, and we request you depart by 10am on the last day of your stay. 


From the South:  leave the M6 at Junction 36, take the A590, A591 to Ambleside.  Just before Ambleside take the A5075 left.  After 0.5 mile turn left again on to the A593 towards Langdale and Coniston.  Go through Clappersgate then take the next right signposted High Close.  After 0.3 mile turn left - the Neaum Crag Estate is on the right after 100m.  Go through estate grounds to Neaum Crag House, Colwith is on far side of house.
