Around and About

Warton is where a branch of the ancestors of George Washington lived, and where in the church is the Washington Coat of Arms which it is reputed inspired the design of the American Flag. The village has two inns both serving food and a Post Office. 2 miles away in Carnforth there is Carnforth Station of 'Brief Encounter' fame, and cafes, take-aways, supermarkets and inns with also a large bookshop for browsers. Within about half an hour's drive you have the well known beauty spots of the Lakes to the north, Yorkshire Dales to the east or Forest of Bowland to the south. You can be in Lancaster via one junction on the M6 for seeing the famous Castle. Kendal with it's rambling old streets, and Kirkby Lonsdale with it's Devil's Bridge tale are close by as is the seaside town of Morecambe with it's unusual Nursery Rhyme pavements and of course The Eric Morecambe Statue, also the recently refurbished Art Deco Midland Hotel.

Leave the M6 at Junction 35 take sliproad signposted Over Kellet/Kirkby Lonsdale then turn right to Carnforth passing over the motorway, through the traffic lights at the canal bridge and straight across at the lights soon passing the station on your left. Keep on the same road (2mls.) and enter Warton. Culdene sign should be visible in the trees on the left as you enter the narrow bend with no pavements. Please go up the STRAIGHT drive to the car park where we will be waiting to welcome you.
