Welcome to Haglathe House, a Grade II Listed cottage in Whitby that dates back to 1760. The beach is nearby and easily accessed via steps leading down to Tate Hill Beach just across the street from the house. Whitby with its charming cobbled streets is perfect for short breaks and holidays on the Yorkshire Coast. The town is steeped in Dracula history, with attractions including the pier and the famous 199 steps leading up to Whitby Abbey. Traditional pubs and lots of wonderful browsing shops are only a five minute walk from Haglathe House. Don't forget the authentic Fortune's Kippers next door.
Haglathe House is set across three floors, with sea views from the top floor. The whole cottage is furnished to an incredibly high standard and full of charm and character with original features retained including 3 original cast iron fire ranges (one of which is still in use), sash windows, beamed ceilings and parquet flooring on the ground floor.
In the ground floor Dining Kitchen there is an original range which was once used by the Fortune family to smoke kippers. This Yorkshire range is no longer used as a fire but is a feature of the room.
Guests enjoy the fact that the spacious dining area is on the ground floor whilst the cot is on the top floor. Several of our guests have commented they enjoy being able to spend time on the ground floor without disturbing the baby whilst he/she goes off to sleep. They then move up to the first floor living room when the baby has settled.
The fully equipped kitchen contains an electric oven, gas hobs, a microwave, a fridge freezer, dishwasher, cutlery and crockery.
In the first floor Living Room you will be able to sit round a cosy open fire in an original Yorkshire Range. The living room also features sofas and a flat-screen TV with DVD player. Freeview TV is available via a NOW TV box.
Also on the first floor is a double bedroom to the front, a twin room at the back of the house and a luxury bathroom with an original antique claw and ball freestanding roll top bath.
On the second (top) floor is a spacious master king-size double room with a decorative original cast iron fireplace, a TV, DVD player, stunning sea views and an en-suite shower room with shower cubicle.
Whitby is a historic maritime town with cobbled streets, a Blue Flag beach and picturesque houses. There's also a wealth of Gothic history to explore.
