Bedrooms / Bathrooms

Our lovely en-suite guest rooms include flat screen TVs, DVD players, free Wi-Fi and a well-stocked hospitality tray. For an extra special stay, book one of our newly refurbished balcony rooms which offer fabulous views. Alternatively, if you are planning a trip to the Lakes including your dog, we have a choice of four ground floor rooms which open out directly into our gardens.

Millican Dalton Suite

Local craftsman helped to create this beautiful double bedroom suite with includes a king size bed, spacious seating area, wood-effect fire and modern ensuite bathroom with underfloor heating. The Suite is entered via a heavy oak door and facade of local Honister slate, and the beams and fireplace have been recycled from a 500 year old Cumbrian farmhouse. Breakfast options include breads, pastries, fruit, cereals, juices, hit drinks, yoghurts and preserves on a buffet basis, and we also serve a range of hot meals. Have our full Cumberland breakfast, an omelette with one of five fillings or grilled buttered kipper. Choose hot porridge, smoked haddock, salmon or Eggs Benedict.


Our team of young and talented chefs, run by head chef Christopher Standhaven has been awarded the AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence. The menus reflect the diversity and quality of locally-sourced produce available. The restaurant has floor to ceiling windows for guests to savour not only fine dining, but also the panoramic view over Castle Cragg and the Borrowdale Valley. The restaurant is open to non-residents to call in for Light lunch, Afternoon Teas, 3 course Dinner or Traditional Sunday Roast Lunch.

Other Facilities

This beautiful country house includes elegant lounges with open fires and spectacular field and fell views. 

We are not licensed for civil wedding ceremonies but wedding receptions are most welcome and we are set within walking distance of the Holy Trinity Church in Grange. Visit our website for further details of our wedding facilities and packages.

Things to note

Dogs are accepted at an extra charge of £7 per dog per night but are not permitted in the open plan dining room, bar and lounge.

Around and About

The hotel can be a perfect base for visitors wishing to ‘escape from it all’ with a range of activities to make your visit special, including : Fell-Walking: the area offers a wide selection of hikes of all levels, straight from the hotel doorstep and the hotel can arrange for an experienced and qualified guide help you enjoy the most of what the fells have to offer. Wildlife: for keen bird watchers, more than 50 species have been spotted at or nearby, as well as red squirrels and deer roaming in the area. Golf: there are a number of courses in the area where we feature special offers for Golfing Breaks at certain times of the year. Cycling: The area is increasingly popular with cyclists ranging from the flatter lakeside routes to the more challenging fell trails. Water Sports: Many guests enjoy the alternative form of transport to Keswick by boat across the lake. For the more adventurous, a wide range of activities can be arranged on the shores of Derwentwater.


From Junction 40 of the M6, follow A66 to Keswick, then follow signs through Keswick to follow B5289 to Borrowdale. Four miles outside of Keswick along B5289, turn right over double hump backed bridge. Hotel 0.25 mile on the right-hand side.
