About this Holiday Cottage

Located in one of three hamlets, with the main village of Kirkby as the centre, The Cottage is in the furthest hamlet of Soutergate.  It is a 350-year-old traditional slate built cottage on the edge of the Lake District National Park.

Tastefully decorated and furnished throughout, we provide the perfect destination for keen walkers, cyclists and lovers of the outdoors.  The Cottage accommodates up to six people and is well equipped for a self-catering holiday.  It has a fitted kitchen, an off road parking space and a patio area suitable for morning coffee and barbeques.  We are situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within the Duddon Estuary and the beach is an 8 minute walk away.

The Lakeland towns of Coniston and Ulverston are nearby, and within 25 minutes you can drive to Windermere/Bowness.  Pets are welcome at the cottage.

Inside

Period features including original wooden beams can be found throughout this charming cottage.  The bathroom has a huge roll top bathtub with mixer shower.

Downstairs, the open plan sitting room and dining area include plenty of seating for guests, a wood burning stove and entertainment facilities include Freeview television with Google Chromecast, a DVD player and free Wi-Fi.

Cooking in the country style kitchen is simple and easy with a spacious butchers block worktop, an electric ‘Esse’ stove, fridge with freezer compartment and a microwave oven.

Bedrooms / Bathrooms

The Cottage comfortably sleeps six people and comprises two double bedrooms and a twin bunk room.  A guest bed is available for alternate sleeping arrangements and we are able to provide a travel cot on request.

The family bathroom on the ground floor has a large shower unit on a huge roll top bathtub.

Outside

The Cottage has outdoor areas to the front and back of the property where you can enjoy the sunshine, morning and afternoon.  The patio area is superb for morning sunshine with a bench and table.  Via the stable door in the kitchen is an area for a BBQ or glass of something, the sun is on the back in the evenings.  The road through the hamlet goes down to the beach and estuary with the Ravenglass railway line running along the sea.  It is an 8-10 minute walk from the cottage.

Other Things to Note

The Cottage has full central heating throughout and the added bonus of a wood burner in the lounge area.  There is a parking space for 1 car at the rear of the property and the hamlet has a large car park for approximately 15 cars/boats etc. Bed linen for 6 guests is provided with a bathmat and hand towels too.  A full cleaning service is included in the price at the end of your holiday.

Guest Comments

"The Cottage is an ideal location for an adventure-filled stay. We did the zip-wires at Go-Ape in Grizedale, hiked up Scafell Pike and went sailing on Coniston Water. Beach walks at Silecroft are beautiful, also sunset views on the estuary - a five minute walk up behind the cottage.  Great place to return to in the evenings - good amount of space to relax in and everything we needed to cook for our family group of five adults.  The log-burner is lovely as well. Thanks!" - Julia from Farnham, Surrey, August 2017.

"We had a really lovely stay for my Husbands 50th birthday. Easy to find, great location and only a short drive from some of the most popular walking spots. Gorgeous cosy cottage, comfy beds, well equipped kitchen. Thanks and I hope we can come back one day". - Rachel & family, April 2017.

"Had a lovely relaxed weekend stay with the family and dogs. The cottage was perfect for us everything we needed ideal location for walking and exploring. Jane was great with any queries and responded fast. Will definitely book again"! Laura from York, February ’17.

"The house was beautiful and cosy will definitely be staying again in the future". – Daniel, Manchester in November 2016.

Around and About

Using The Cottage as a base you can travel to Coniston, Newby Bridge and Ambleside.  Travel up the West coast to Ravenglass, Maryport and Cockermouth.  Close by is the animal park at Dalton and lovely eating pubs, delis and cafes in the village of Broughton in Furness.  Nearby pubs include The Prince of Wales at Foxfield and the Greyhound at Grizebeck is a great pub for food, with the speciality ‘pie of the day’ highly recommended!  It is a five minute drive from the cottage and Foxfield is a lovely 4 mile walk alongside the estuary .
