Alderholt Mill is a stunning working Water Mill situated on the Dorset/Hampshire border, on the edge of the New Forest National Park. An ideal place to unwind and relax from the hustle and bustle of every day life, it is a great location for those who wish to explore Dorset, West Hampshire, Salisbury, the Wiltshire Downs and the New Forest. We are also just a short drive from Bournemouth and Poole on the south coast. The Mill is a unique historic building set on a small island formed by the River Allen that joins the River Avon at the nearby town of Fordingbridge.
If you enjoy fishing, private fishing is available. Grayling and Trout are just two of the more popular species in the river. We can supply bait and a secure lock-up for fishing tackle on request as well as early breakfasts for those who would like to start their fishing early!
For those who just want to sit and enjoy the surroundings, you are able to experience the pleasure of staying in this fully working water mill. Since the 14th century a Mill has been on this site and the mill machinery had worked commercially until 1947 when it fell into disrepair. After being lovingly restored in 1987, it successfully produced flour again. In the summer season we open our tea room and serve freshly baked cream teas on Saturdays and Sundays (2pm to 6pm) and during summer Bank Holidays. Our cream teas are made using our own ground flour from the mill.
Bed and breakfast accommodation is situated in a separate wing of the house giving residents their own privacy and freedom to come and go as they please. Cosy central heating is throughout, provided by our ground source heat pump.
We have 2 double bedrooms and 1 twin room both with modern en-suite shower rooms. Facilities include a colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities and radio alarm clocks.
Relax in our comfortable, tastefully decorated dining and sitting room areas and enjoy either a full English cooked breakfast or a light Continental breakfast if preferred. Breakfast is served around our large dining table and locally sourced produce is used where possible. We are proud recipients of the New Forest Marque award in recognition of our high quality locally sourced food.
We open the Mill for cream teas and the sale of bread during summer season weekends. The wheat we mill is grown locally, keeping the diesel miles low and we have been awarded the New Forest Marque. Milling demonstrations take place on Sundays at 3pm between Easter and 1st September. We will do our very best to ensure you have a both a relaxing and peaceful stay with us.
Children over 8 years are welcome. Please call us direct for single occupancy rates, late availability offers and special weekly rates, or search availability online and book direct.
We also have two ground floor self-catering cottages both sleeping 2 available.
