About Barend Holiday Village

Welcome to Barend Holiday Village on the beautiful Solway Coast in Dumfries and Galloway. Situated close to the wonderful beach at Sandyhills and within easy reach Galloway Forest Park, we offer an award winning range of cosy and quiet lodges which are perfect for family breaks. Relax on your private veranda and enjoy the far reaching coast and mountain views, watch the abundance of range of wildlife from your balcony and unwind at a fantastic choice of onsite facilities including a heated indoor pool and sauna. 

Book directly with us and receive free access to Colvend Golf Club which is right on the doorstep! Bike hire can also be arranged and there are horse riding/ pony trekking stables by the loch. Dogs are welcome by arrangement in certain accommodation and short breaks of three nights or more may be available. Contact us to book your ideal break today.


  • Type A Lodge - our two storey lodges for six to eight people with two double or twin bedrooms including one with an ensuite cloakroom. Other features include an upstairs open plan bedroom sleeping four, a downstairs house bathroom, plus upstairs and downstairs decks overlooking the loch, Solway Firth or golf course.
  • Type B Lodge - similar in layout to type A, on two storeys with outside decks, but one with one double and one single bedroom, smaller bedroom sleeping two and one house bathroom.
  • Type C Lodge - Single storey lodge with two double or twin bedrooms plus a smaller bedroom with bunks or two singles. The accommodation also includes a house bathroom, kitchen and open plan living/ dining area which opens up onto a small verandah.
  • Barend Farm Cottage - A single storey cottage with level entry, one double bedroom, bathroom and shower room. There is also a small but well equipped kitchen which is fitted with a dishwasher and fridge/ freezer. The large decks offer some of the best views at Barend and modern entertainment facilities such as Sky TV with sports and movies is provided.

All lodges have Freeview TV, DVD players, dishwashers and some have satellite TV. Some chalets have better Wi-Fi signal than others so please contact us if this is important to you. A choice of pet friendly and pet free accommodation is available.

The private verandas and balconies are the ideal spot to watch the local wildlife with visitors including red squirrels, badgers, Roe deer, Barnacle geese, woodpeckers in spring, mute swans, buzzards plus many more. Due to minimal light pollution at Barend, our lodges are also ideal for a spot of stargazing.

  • Two purpose built boules courts overlooked by terrace seating areas with panoramic views.
  • A launderette.
  • Barend Bar and Restaurant with Sky Sports, outdoor seating, a wood burner stove, free Wi-Fi, Friday Quiz Night, bar snacks and homemade food created with local produce. Pre-booked lunches and breaks can also be provided for groups on request. There is also private function space for up to 40 guests.
  • Free fishing with the otters at Barend Loch where 14lb carp have been caught. Fly fishing for trout and salmon can also be enjoyed closeby.
  • Horse riding and pony trekking at the stables by the loch.
  • Bike hire and access to over 400 miles of signposted cycle routes.

Other Things to Note

All lodges have a high chair, stair gate and cots can be hired for your stay.

The nearest shop is two miles away but we are happy to arrange daily deliveries of bread, milk and newspapers, along with groceries for your arrival.


Short breaks of three nights or more may be available. Check in time is after 4pm and please vacate by 10am on your final day. Arrivals after 5pm should be organised in advance. 

The rental charge includes a gas and electricity allowance of £15 per week during April to September and £25 per week from October to March.

Around and About

The picturesque beach at Sandyhills can be found a short walk away and is ideal for family days at the beach being warmed by the Gulf Stream. The attractions of Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright and Dalbeattie can be found a short drive away. Home to miles of open coastline, a wealth of outdoor activities such as sea kayaking, kite surfing, sea fishing and much more can be enjoyed along the Solway Coast - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
