Scotland Accommodation
Scotland Accommodation: Edinburgh Accommodation, Glasgow, Inverness, Aberdeen
Accommodation can be found across Scotland in a variety of different forms. These include hotels, B&B’s, guest houses, cottages and more. Edinburgh accommodation is perhaps the most popular in the country, and the capital city relies upon the wealth of accommodation on offer no more so than when the famous Edinburgh Festival takes place in August each year. Scotland accommodation caters for visitors of all descriptions and each accommodation type will offer its own unique benefits. Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and one of the biggest in the UK. Glasgow accommodation is suitably plentiful and the city itself boasts impressive architecture, whilst it is also home to the two largest football teams in Scotland – Rangers and Celtic. Aside from the ever popular Edinburgh and Glasgow, Inverness is another area popular with tourists. Inverness accommodation allows people to stay in the most Northerly city in the UK, from which they can easily visit the Scottish highlands. Aberdeen accommodation is often found in properties that are centuries old and that were built using traditional grey granite quarried in the area. It is often nicknamed the Granite City.
Edinburgh Hotels, Glasgow Hotels, Inverness, St Andrews – Scotland Hotels
At Edinburgh hotels and hotels all over Scotland guests pay for short term lodging. Hotels may also offer additional services either inclusive of the original price, or at an additional cost. Hotels can belong to a chain, or be run independently. There are plenty of Glasgow hotels that belong to each category, whilst both large and small hotels can also be found. There are Inverness hotels of all sizes to be found in the Northerly city and the standard of many Scotland hotels is apparent from the star rating that they have been awarded. Such ratings are given according to the standards of cleanliness, facilities and service amongst other things. 5 star ratings are awarded to the best, most luxurious properties only, and the prices at these are usually significantly higher than at 1, 2, 3 or 4 star rated accommodation. St Andrews hotels of all qualities are available, and are particularly appealing to golfers who come to visit the ‘home of golf’.
Holiday Cottages in Scotland, Isle of Skye Cottages, Scotland, UK
Cottages are a great self catering holiday choice for families and couples, and also for large groups of people. There are many cottages in Scotland and these are mainly to be found in rural areas, some of which may be quite remote. This is worth considering if you have young children who might wish to be located closer to shops and attractions. Proprietors will normally allow children in their cottages, whilst some will also permit you to bring your pets. The facilities in each individual cottage are likely to vary and this is the case in Isle of Skye cottages, which are popular within the Inner Hebrides. The Isle of Skye boasts spectacular scenery and an abundance of wildlife, and it is these things that make it such a popular holiday destination.
Self Catering Scotland: Self Catering Glasgow and Edinburgh
Self catering accommodation refers to properties in which guests are given the facilities by which they can cook for themselves. This often results in more affordable prices and for self catering Scotland is well served. Guests can self cater in Scottish cottages, caravan and holiday parks, at campsites, as well as in flats and apartments. For Scottish self catering Glasgow is a particularly good location with many properties offering the facilities with which guests can provide for themselves.
Scotland Bed and Breakfast: Edinburgh Bed and Breakfast, Inverness, Glasgow, Aberdeen
Bed and breakfast accommodation refers to all properties that are able to provide both a room in which guests can stay the night and a breakfast in the morning. For bed and breakfast Edinburgh is an excellent choice, and tourists can choose between hotels, B&B’s, guest houses and many other accommodation types, all of which may offer a bed and breakfast service. B&B’s are a specific variety of bed and breakfast accommodation and so bed and breakfast Inverness properties are not exclusively B&B’s. The wealth of accommodation in Inverness is indicative of its growing popularity and it is in fact one of the fastest growing cities in Europe! Bed and breakfast Glasgow properties are also plentiful as you would expect in Scotland’s largest city. The shopping in Glasgow is excellent, as it is in Aberdeen. The main shopping streets here are Union Street and George Street and Aberdeen bed and breakfast properties can be found nearby both.
B&B Edinburgh, B&B Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Oban – Scotland, UK
B&B’s are a specific type of bed and breakfast accommodation that are characterised by their relatively small size, welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. B&B Edinburgh properties are often family run, as are those across Scotland, and the staff will normally have a good deal of local knowledge that they are happy to share with visiting tourists. Those wanting to visit the north of Scotland might consider a B&B Inverness offers, which will often take the form of a private house or extension to one – as many B&B’s do. B&B Glasgow accommodation as listed on iknow-scotland can include guest houses as well as B&B’s as the two property types are extremely similar. The only slight difference is that guest houses are able to accommodate a couple of extra paying guests at any one time, and may also offer one or two additional services. At a B&B Aberdeen provides guests can expect to receive a much more personalised service than at a hotel for example. The same applies to a B&B Oban might offer, with some of these occupying spaces alongside the picturesque Oban Bay.
Edinburgh Hostels, Glasgow Hostels, Scotland, UK
Hostels are an excellent budget accommodation choice, particularly suitable for large groups. Beds are available to rent at many Edinburgh hostels where guests will share a dormitory style bedroom, bathroom and often a lounge and kitchen. There are also a number of Glasgow hostels and these again are a great informal accommodation option that is especially popular with backpackers and frequent travellers.
Caravan Parks Scotland, Holiday Parks and Campsites in Scotland
There are many camping opportunities in Scotland, with plenty of campsites and holiday parks scattered across the country. These are largely found in rural and coastal areas, although for caravan parks Scotland is very well served in general. At these parks people have the option to rent a plot of land and bring their own caravan, or simply to rent one of the many static caravans already on site. The prices are normally very reasonable and make caravan and holiday parks a fantastic option for families. There will usually be plenty of activities on-site to keep kids amused, whilst off-site facilities are usually not too far away.
Glasgow Pubs and Inns – Pub Accommodation in Scotland
Many of the numerous pubs in Scotland offer accommodation as well as serving traditional pub food and drinks. There are a number of Glasgow pubs that do just this and many of these are family run, with friendly, helpful staff on hand to offer advice and information about the local area where required. The service provided is of a personal nature and the food is often of a high standard and is produced using fresh, local produce.
Weekend Breaks in Scotland, Short Breaks, Glasgow and Edinburgh City Breaks
Edinburgh city breaks are now hugely popular with people visiting the Scottish capital city during midweek as well as at the weekend. Weekend breaks in Scotland in general are now big business and some accommodation providers will now target this market specifically offering deals and special offers to entice tourists to travel. Some may even host themed weekends wherein they target an even more specific audience – perhaps hosting a golfing weekend for example. Short breaks in Scotland can be as expensive or inexpensive as you desire, depending on your choice of location and accommodation.
Accommodation on iknow-scotland.co.uk can be sorted by type as well as by speciality. Accommodation types include the likes of hotels and guest houses – they are different forms of accommodation. Any given property may be of only one type, but may belong to an unlimited number of specialities. These describe additional services or specialisations that a property might have – parking and bed and breakfast are two examples. Many of these types and specialities have been described in the text above, however there are many more as well as a greater amount of detail regarding each available on the regional site.

A Tale of Two Brothers
Folklore has it that two brothers wanted to build a house on the headland in Sandsend. One went behind the others back and started to build. The other did the same but, when he reached the cellar stage, they made up and continued building just the first house. The cellar has remained in the garden ever since.
