St Mary's Church Burnham Westgate - Burnham Market

Picturesque Burnham Market village is 3 miles inland from the North Norfolk Heritage Coast. Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson learnt to sail around the seven Burnhams and was born in the village of Burnham Thorpe, the son of a vicar in 1758. Local Burnham Thorpe inn The Plough changed its name to The Lord Nelson in 1798 in honour of Nelson and today is still offering a warm welcome to visitors, serving real ales straight from the cask. Nelson regularly visited the pub when he returned to Burnham Thorpe.

Burnham Market is the perfect holiday base for touring the North Coast. Fondly known as Chelsea-On-Sea, the village contains delightful independent shops, boutiques, fine hotels, best restaurants and traditional pubs. Near the village you can pick up boat trips across to Scolt Head Island nature reserve where you'll see a host of nesting seabirds. Try your hand at sailing around the Burnhams or take a tour of local heritage sites like the ruined Augustinian Creake Abbey with onsite craft studios, antiques centes, cafes and the famous Creake Abbey barn owls!

Premier coastal golf, spectacular RSPB centres, nature reserves and award-winning beaches like Holkham are all within easy reach of Burnham Market, a village famed for its local produce markets, specialist shops, cafes, antiques shops and traditional inns. Stay in a cosy cottage for two in Burnham Market, ideal for all year round romantic breaks on the Heritage Coast or book a pet friendly and family friendly three bedroom cottage with a large garden. Scolt Head Island NNR

Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve is an offshore barrier island near the Burnhams on the North Norfolk Coast. The shifting coastline here is constantly growing westwards and the island nature reserve features a mix of saltmarsh, intertidal sand and mud flats and sand dunes. Large numbers of breeding birds including terns and wintering wildfowl and waders have their home on Scolt Head Island. Ferries run from the village of Burnham Overy Staithe to Scolt Head Island (April to September).
