Bure Valley Railway

Wroxham is a real hub for family attractions in the Broads. The Bure Valley Railway runs between historic market town Aylsham and Wroxham, and is an enchanting 15 inch narrow gauge railway line with station stops en-route including Brampton, Buxton and Coltishall.

A round trip on the Bure Valley Railway is 18 miles, taking you through stunning river meadowland with views of the River Bure enroute. Boat trips can be combined with railway trips with Broads Tours. Visitors can hop on and off at the pretty village stations along the line and enjoy walking and cycling.

A cycle and walking footpath is adjacent to the entire 9 miles of the railway line between Aylsham and Wroxham and cycles can be taken aboard the scheduled Bure Valley Railway services. Hire bikes in Wroxham and at Bewilderwood to take on to the Bure Valley Railway. The main station on the Bure Valley line is Aylsham where you'll find a large railway shop, railway workshops, a tourist information centre and a large cafe.

Hoveton Hall Gardens

Hoveton Hall Gardens near Wroxham is another superb attraction in the area, situated on the edge of the Norfolk Broads and covering 15 acres. The gardens here at Hoveton Hall are spectacular through the seasons with Rhododendrons and Azaleas prevalent through May and June and a host of summer flowering gems in the Spider Garden during the summer months. The Hall itself is attributed to the great British landscape gardener Humphrey Repton (1752-1818) who was born in Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk. Examples of Repton's designs feature elsewhere in Norfolk at Sheringham Park.

Gardeners will find much to inspire here with highlights in the Gardens including the exquisite herbaceous border colours in the Spider Garden, the circular designed Clematis Walk, the Magnolia Garden with lake dug in the 18th century and the 1920s Water Gardens with Kidney Lake featuring a central island populated by many wildfowl such as Grey Heron. Guided tours of Hoveton Hall Gardens are available and children will love the on-site Children's Nature Trail which weaves around the Gardens highlighting key features in a fun learning way with nature trail card to stamp as you find key sites.

Events at Hoveton Hall Gardens range from Easter Treasure Hunts to Craft Fairs and summer Strawberry Fayre. Recent events introduced include the Victorian Extravaganza Family Fun Day. Treat yourself to afternoon tea and a light lunches at the tearoom and you can purchase plants propagated from the gardens in the plant sales area. Facilities for wedding receptions in the Hoveton Hall Gardens are also available. Hoveton Hall sits just north of Wroxham off the A1151.
