Award-winning beach bays in Broadstairs

Award-winning beach bays in Broadstairs

One of Kent's most enchanting seaside resorts perfect for family beach holidays, Broadstairs on the Kent Thanet Coast is famed for its award-winning sandy beach bays flanked by gentle cliffs packed with cosy hotels, guest houses and family inns and cafes. Broadstairs is one of many Kent towns with strong links to the author Charles Dickens who gave it the nickname 'Our English Watering Hole'. Don't miss a tour of the Dickens House Museum, formerly the home of Mary Pearson Strong whom Dickens visited and went on to base the character of Betsey Trotwood in 'David Copperfield' on.

The annual Broadstairs Dickens Festival takes place in the third week of June. The festival has a long history stretching back to 1937, and the event today attracts huge numbers of visitors. The festival programme includes a Grand Parade with local residents in Victorian costume, fairs and stalls, beach parties, various marquees and a festival play based on one of Charles Dickens’ novels – the first of these festival plays staged in 1937 was David Copperfield.
