Canterbury Cathedral

Canterbury Cathedral

Canterbury, Kent's cathedral capital, is one of England's great historic cities, home to the World Heritage St Augustine's Abbey and the breathtaking Canterbury Cathedral, site of Thomas a Becket's tomb until Henry VIII had the tomb removed. Stay in a welcoming Canterbury guest house in the heart of the historic city centre centre and be close to a choice of first class museums, galleries, theatres and attractions from the children's favourite The Canterbury Tales Attraction to the Canterbury Heritage Museum housed within a 14th Century medieval poor priests hospital.

St Augustine's Abbey ruins Canterbury

Tour the ancient ruins and old church of World Heritage Site St Augustine's Abbey and St Martin's Church and wander the character alleyways and pedestrianised narrow side streets like Butchery Lane where you'll find wonderful tearooms, antique craft centres, unique boutiques, chic cafes and inns with cathedral views. Canterbury has a strong leaning towards local and organic produce, offering a great choice of vegetarian cafes and restaurants and a relaxed dining and shopping scene.

Specialist independent shops mingle with modern shopping arcades like Marlowe Arcade and Whitefriars - Canterbury is one of the South East's top shopping and dining breaks with plenty of award-winners here from CAMRA recommended inns to fine tea rooms and great world cuisine restaurants. Kent's tightly packed capital is easily explored on food and is a major cultural centre in the South East hosting numerous arts, food, film and children's festivals. The city centre is packed with premier theatres, independent cinemas and offers a host of themed tours from river cruises on the Stour, ghosts and ghouls or literary tours focusing on Chaucer and Marlowe.
