Scarborough Beaches

With two spectacular beach bays, a host of classic seaside guest houses and hotels and a mix of vintage and modern seaside attractions, Britain's first seaside resort Scarborough is a top holiday choice for all, from families to couples on the hunt for a vintage romantic break. Bathing machines were first spotted here in Scarborough in 1736, and through the centuries the resort has amassed a spectacular mix of heritage seaside architecture from grand seafront hotels like the iconic Victorian Grand hotel to the magnificent Spa Conference & Entertainment Centre dating from the 1880s.

Premier museums with long histories also feature in the heart of the resort, including The Rotunda Geology Museum, a restored museum gem set up by the father of Geology, William Smith. Scarborough Castle ruins are essential viewing on any visit, situated on the headland between South and North Bay, with its 12th Century Keep still intact! The grave of one of Scarborough's biggest fans, Anne Bronte, sits close to the castle in St Mary's Churchyard. Anne, who made mention of her favourite Yorkshire coast resort in at least two of her novels, died here in Scarborough 1849.
