Strathpeffer

Victorian spa village Strathpeffer is the perfect gateway into the Black Isle, the Inverness area and the Highlands. Brimming with a choice of character accommodation including historic spa hotels, you can sample some of the original spa experience in Strathpeffer for yourself and The Pump Room with exhibitions, videos, gift shop, gardens and a tourist information centre. Strathpeffer was rather a famous European spa resort from 1870 to 1939!

As popular today as during the Victorian spa boom period, Strathpeffer's location puts it within easy reach of Black Isle and Highlands & Islands daytrip hotspots including Cromarty, Loch Ness and Inverness, Ullapool and the Isle of Skye. Hub venue for local events, conferences and exhibitions is the Strathpeffer Pavilion and don't miss a visit to the enchanting Museum of Childhood in the village housed within a Victorian station building, displaying a collection of historic dolls, toys, costumes and photography.

The 18 hole Strathpeffer Golf Club, as with all the Highlands golf courses, is idyllically situated and surrounded by moorland and mountain views. Fly fishing and trout fishing feature on nearby Loch Achilty and you'll find ample opportunity for challenging hill walking around local Ben Wyvis. Each Saturday evening across the summer season (May to October) visitors are treated to the delights of the Strathpeffer Pipe Band who perform in the town square.

The iconic Clan Mackenzie also had a seat in the area - Castle Leod, a red sandstone tower house dating from 1606, still unusually occupied by the original family and beautifully situated at the foot of Ben Wyvis. Castle Leod is open to the public on limited days between June and August. Browse and book places to stay in Strathpeffer and The Black Isle online with iknow.
