Lairg, Scotland

One of the largest villages in the Highlands, Lairg is rare in that it sits inland and not on the coast. The Sutherland area of the North West Highlands is renowned as one of the best walking and fishing areas, with superb trout fishing featuring in Loch Shin which sweeps north west of Lairg and is within a 30 minute walk of the village via the beautiful Ferry Wood forest.

If you're looking for one of the best fishing hotspots in the Highlands, you've found it here in Lairg which is famed for its superb Loch trout fishing. Fishing permits for the area are available from Lairg Angling Club. The great outdoors of The vast North West Highlands Geopark  surrounds Lairg, with highlight attractions within easy reach including the Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve's rock routes to the west.

Boat trips out to wildlife haven Handa island, managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and home to puffins, guillemots and great skuas are also within easy driving distance. Stay in the fishing capital of the Highlands alongside Loch Shin- book places to stay in Lairg online or direct.
