Polly Joke beach between Crantock & Holywell

The village of Crantock and the West Pentire area is within easy reach of Newquay and is great for picturesque family beach breaks, coastal walking with dogs or a relaxing Cornwall holiday. It's separated from Newquay by the River Gannel, though it takes just fifteen minutes to drive between the two. Crantock and Newquay are just 200 metres apart across the tidal river. In low tide, you can walk between them along a small wooden footbridge. In high tide, the family-run Fern Pit Ferry offers travel across on a small boat. Stop off at the Fern Pit boathouse which sells fresh Cornish lobster and crab.

St Carantoc's Church

Crantock Beach offers beautiful golden sands and great surfing waves or wait for low tide to see the beach carving. The face of a woman, and her horse, are carved into the cliffs, along with a short poem. Other beautiful beaches in the area include secluded Polly Joke beach hidden away between Holywell and Crantock with soft sands and a pretty stream running down to the sea. Crantock's beaches are also great for family rockpooling at low tide!

The South West Coast Path in this area leads through National Trust owned coast which is an Area of Special Scientific Interest. It's a perfect spot for year round coastal walking getaways, and no need to leave active Rovers behind - Crantock offers a wealth of pet friendly cottages and holiday parks. Local events include the Crantock Summer Fiesta annually in July, with rides and attractions in the village centre. Take a walk to St. Carantoc's Church and the adjacent Old Albion Inn which welcomes dogs, is family friendly and serves a range of hearty pub meals and fine ales.
