Bodmin town makes a great gateway into Bodmin Moor, with an award-winning visitor centre at Shire Hall and a choice of charming holiday cottages and B&Bs. Both the north and south coasts are just a 20 minute drive away and the town is easily accessed off the A30 trunk road. Numerous walks and trails feature in the local area around picturesque Cardinham Woods, 650 acres of mixed woodland with 4 miles of waymarked trails and a cafe. Bodmin also affords easy access onto the 60-mile Copper Trail, a circular walk running around the edge of Bodmin Moor which can be broken down into six easy walking sections.

Ride the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, a thirteen mile round trip aboard a steam train, or grab your bike or boots and head off along the Camel Trail, an 18 mile trail following the route of a disused railway between Wenfordbridge, Bodmin, Wadebridge and Padstow. The Camel Trail is a multi-use trail, open to horse riders, walkers and cyclists. Several old holy and civic wells are also dotted around the town, best explored along Bodmin's Well Trail.

The Bodmin Beacon Nature Reserve covers 87 acres topped by a monument on a hill, and is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic on a summer afternoon. Don't miss a visit to the legendary Bodmin Jail offering overnight ghost walks, an on-site restaurant and Witness Box bar. Bodmin also has a town museum and for a unique experience, visit the one hour Court Room Experience inside Shire Hall inclusive of interactive court murder trial and tour of the holding cells. You get the chance to be part of the jury and decide who killed Charlotte Dymond. Her body was discovered near Roughtor in 1844. Young Matthew Weeks was charged with the murder and hanged at Bodmin Gaol.
