Lamorna Cove

Lamorna Cove

Mousehole is a tiny picturesque fishing village around Mounts Bay near Penzance. The village has a beautiful sheltered harbour and quayside, and is brimming with quaint cottages, a selection of restaurants, art galleries, gift shops and old inns dotted around its cobbled narrow streets. A family friendly sandy beach is exposed at low tide and just offshore from the harbour wall sits St Clement's Isle, a small rocky islet. Spectacular coastal walking sits right on your doorstep along the cliff top coast path just minutes from the village. A coastal trail runs from Mousehole to Lamorna Cove with its crystal clear waters and opportunities for diving, fishing, sailing and various water sports. Lamorna Cove and its beautiful surrounding seascapes was an inspiration for the post impressionist Newlyn School of Artists including famous names such as Augustus John. A charming boutique hotel, formerly a chapel and village school, is here along with a small collection of tearooms, coffee shops and a little rocky cove beach.

Mousehole Christmas Lights

The Lamorna, Newlyn and St Ives Schools of artists were all inspired by the area in and around Mousehole and Newlyn. Independent galleries continue the tradition, and you can see the best of South West contemporary art at the free entry Newlyn Art Gallery with great glass curtain frontage and panoramic views of Newlyn Green and the sea. Mousehole with its luxury quayside holiday homes, quaint Grade Listed harbourside cottages, small boutique hotels and guest houses is the perfect base from which to explore some of the South West's most spectacular beaches, locations and landmarks including nearby Porthcurno beach and the Minack open air theatre.

During the Christmas season Mousehole village and harbour is illuminated to great effect with a stunning display of Christmas Lights which have included in the past a Celtic Cross on offshore St Clement's Isle. Many local artists and carpenters have been involved in creating this famous Cornish Christmas lights display over the years. The first lights display around the harbour, begun by the Mousehole-based artist Joan Gillchrest, was in 1963, and today around 30,000 visitors come to see this historic harbour village ablaze with colour during the festive winter season.
