Beaumaris Castle

The Welsh town of Beaumaris was named after its castle. The castle is actually called Beaux Marais, which means 'beautiful marsh', and was built on a marsh foundation. Beaux Marais Castle was never fully finished, but is a popular attraction that's open to the public and stands in lovely well-kept grounds.

One of the town's top attractions is the Museum of Childhood Memories, with approximately 2000 items on display. Items are in themed rooms and show 150 years of childhood, with the attraction described as a 'uniquely memorable experience'.

Starida Sea Services offer boat trips from Beaumaris Pier, with a full commentary for a guided tour. Pleasure cruises go to Puffin Island where you'll see the puffins and seals, and to the stunning Menai Bridge if architecture is more your thing. The Treasure Island Fun Centre is an indoor play area that'll keep kids occupied for hours, whilst an attraction better suited to adults and older children is the Beaumaris Gaol offering an atmospheric insight into the life of a Victorian prisoner complete with access to the punishment cell and the condemned cell. Of course, if you'd prefer more comfortable accommodation you'll find plenty of options. Search Beaumaris accommodation using our site today, and book a stay online.
