Betws y Coed

Betws y Coed, pronounced 'bet-oos a koyd', stands in the Snowdonia National Park and is considered the Gateway to Snowdonia. The town's name means 'prayer house in the wood', and originated from the beautiful woodland surroundings and the small, 14th century St. Michael's Church, which the village was built around. Betws y Coed is a great base for walking holidays and outdoor activities, and includes the Pont-y-Pair Falls which eventually lead a mile upstream to the more impressive Swallow Falls.

Betws y Coed has a golf club that's open to visitors, and it offers plenty of choice for active breaks. Seren Ventures is where you can try your hand at climbing, gorge scrambling or canyoning, whilst Go Below will take you into Snowdonia's abandoned mines for climbing, abseiling or boating in atmospheric underground lakes. Alternately, head up instead of down for your very own Tree Top Adventure, with multi award-winning high ropes courses for all over the age of four. The village is also home to the Llyn Elsi lake, which offers some of the most spectacular views along with the opportunity to enjoy lazy afternoons of angling.

To feed the appetites of walkers and adventurers, Betws y Coed has a number of restaurants and traditional pubs. For a rest the village has inns, holiday cottages, hotels and B&Bs amongst other accommodation choices. Find and compare Betws y Coed accommodation, for a short and action-packed weekend or a longer active break.
