Croyde Bay

Croyde Bay

Croyde seaside village on the North Devon Coast is famed for its spectacular beach - Croyde Bay, one of the UK's most popular beaches for surfing, body boarding and bathing. The village hosts annual surfing competitions and music events including Gold Coast Oceanfest. In and around Croyde sit a wide choice of luxury beachside apartments, charming seaside cottages and bungalows and family friendly holiday parks within walking distance of the beach. The attractive village centre contains a choice of restaurants, inns and shops, as well as a post office, skate board park and a popular ice cream shop.

The National Trust cares for sections of spectacular coastline in the area around Baggy Point headland - a top spot for walking and far reaching coastal views. Other activities widely available alongside excellent surfing include cycling along the nearby Tarka Trail, coastal walking on the South West Coast Path and local golf, tennis and horse riding.

Surfing

Surfing the waves at Croyde is certainly one of it's key attractions - Croyde is renowned for offering some of the best beach breaks in the UK! The beach itself is famous worldwide as a surfing centre and is a Blue Flag beach with excellent cleanliness and facilities. There's plenty of surfing shops selling surfing clothes at Croyde, as well as surfing tuition centres and Croyde Surf Club. The beach has lifeguards during the high summer season when the Bay is particularly crowded. Croyde's waters offer fast, hollow waves and at low tide especially they keep hold of their shape producing larger swells. Croyde is popular with experienced surfers, especially around the reef and Downend Point. Head for Saunton Sands for a slower pace if a surfing novice.

Activities

Roylands Stables offers beach rides, tuition, hacking and tailor-made riding experiences to suit all from families and 'Tiny Treks to Stag & Hen Party excursions. The village also features a popular skate park. The Baggy Point headland overlooking Croyde Bay is where to head for fantastic scenic walks along the South West Coast Path. Coasteering and climbing are popular activities and Croyde sits close to the Tarka Trail, a popular gentle family cycling trail. Try a spot of rock climbing or walk up Middleborough Hill to Putsborough and on to Woolacombe. There is a National Trust visitor centre and car park at Baggy Point where you can pick up maps and guides on walking in the area, and information on the nature and geology of the coastline. A tea room and garden are also here, and a slipway onto Croyde beach is just metres away from the car park.

Where to Stay

Attractive seaside village Croyde contains all essential amenities and more, from a popular ice cream shop to food shops, lively pubs and a wide range of accommodation to suit all budgets and tastes. Book a luxury Croyde cottage overlooking the Bay or stay in an eco-friendly B&B with parking and delicious breakfasts. Fabulous beachside modern holiday homes are plentiful in this top surfing resort - ideal for surfing groups and families. Stylish contemporary apartments with balconies and sea views are also widely available.
